‘Amritpal Singh wanted’ posters put up in Punjab’s Gurdaspur, rewards announced

By India Today News Desk: Posters declaring fugitive Khalistani separatist as a “wanted man” were put up by the government railway police at the Batala railway station in Punjab’s Gurdaspur district on Wednesday.

The posters mentioned that Amritpal is wanted in multiple cases by the police.

Amritpal has been on the run since March 18 following a police crackdown.

“Whosoever has any information about him (Amritpal) can share it on the mobile numbers given below. Appropriate reward will be given on providing the information,” read the poster.

The posters also mentioned that the name of the informer would be kept confidential.

Amritpal Singh’s close aide Papalpreet Singh arrested

Khalistani separatist Amritpal Singh’s close aide Papalpreet Singh was arrested by Punjab Police from Hoshiarpur on April 10. Papalpreet was arrested following an operation conducted by Punjab Police and its counter-intelligence unit.

Papalpreet will be lodged in Assam’s Dilburgah jail. He was detained under the National Security Act (NSA). The NSA allows detention for up to a year without any charge.

Sources told India Today that six other cases have also been registered against Papalpreet Singh, who is considered to be Amritpal’s mentor.

Amritpal Singh, Papalpreet got separated on March 28

Sources in the intelligence unit of Punjab Police said Amritpal Singh and Papalpreet got separated on March 28 during the police chase. Since then, there has been no contact between the duo, sources added.

Punjab Police had received a tip-off that Amritpal and Papalpreet had reached Gurdwara Janam Asthan Sant Baba Nidhan Singh, Nadalon village, Hoshiarpur, on March 27. They also received information that the duo would move to a new location on the evening of March 28. This is when an operation was launched for the second time, when the duo once again managed to give Punjab police a slip.

Amritpal Singh still on run

Amritpal, who is yet to be nabbed, escaped the police net in Jalandhar district on March 18, switching vehicles and changing appearances.

The radical preacher and his associates have been booked under several criminal cases related to spreading disharmony among classes, attempt to murder, attack on police personnel and creating obstructions in the lawful discharge of duty by public servants.

Crackdown against the Khalistan sympathisers

Police had last month launched a major crackdown against the Khalistan sympathiser and members of his outfit ‘Waris Punjab De’.

The crackdown came three weeks after Amritpal Singh along with hundreds of his supporters stormed into the Ajnala police station near Amritsar to secure the release of an arrested man.
