By India Today News Desk: The last rites of Atiq Ahmed’s son will be performed by his relatives from the maternal side at the cemetery of Kasari Masari in front of the gangster-politician’s house. Meanwhile, Ghulam’s family has refused to take his body and the Uttar Pradesh Police will perform his last rites.

Asad and Ghulam were both killed in an encounter with Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) in Jhansi on Thursday. Both had bounties of Rs 5 lakh on their heads and both were accused in the Umesh Pal murder case.

Sources said Ghulam’s body will not be handed over to his relatives in Jhansi. The police will bring both the dead bodies to Prayagraj and will get them cremated here under their supervision.

Atiq Ahmed, who has been remanded to 14-day judicial custody, has been repeatedly requesting the police to allow him to attend his son’s last rites, but was denied permission, sources told India Today.

Shortly after the death of his 19-year-old son, Atiq Ahmed, who, at the time, was taken to Prayagraj jail along with his brother Ashraf, said that he was responsible for Asad’s death.

Umesh Pal, a witness in the 2005 murder of BSP MLA Raju Pal, was shot dead outside his home in Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj on February 24. Atiq Ahmed, his brother Ashraf, Asad and others were named as accused in the case. Atiq Ahmed is also an accused in the 2005 Raju Pal murder case.
