‘Washing Powder Nirma’ poster near Assam Congress office as PM Modi arrives in Guwahati

By India Today News Desk: Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Guwahati on Friday as Assam celebrates the festival of Bihu. Ahead of his day-long visit, a poster of ‘Washing Powder Nirma’ was installed in Guwahati’s Rajiv Bhawan area. Rajiv Bhawan is the Assam Congress headquarters.

The poster featured morphed images of the Nirma girl with faces of BJP leaders like CM Himanta Biswa Sarma, Narayan Rane, Suvendu Adhikari, Sujana Chowdhary, Eshwarappa among others who joined the saffron party from other parties.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma welcomed PM Modi at the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport. After his arrival, Sarma wrote on Twitter, “I heartily welcome Hon’ble PM Shri
@narendramodi Ji to Assam to celebrate Bihu.”

PM Modi will dedicate Rs 14,300-crore worth development projects during his visit to Assam on the occasion of the state’s spring festival. He will also inaugurate the Rs 1,123-crore AIIMS in Guwahati and distribute health cards to 1.1 crore people.

The prime minister will also lay the foundation for the Assam Advanced Healthcare Innovation Institute, a collaboration between IIT-Guwahati and the state government, and inaugurate a mega 500-TPD methanol plant in Namrup.

The day’s last programme will be a performance by dancers and drummers, who created a Guinness World Record on Thursday in the category of the largest recital of ‘Bihu’ dance and playing of ‘Bihu dhol’ in a single venue.
