Jos Buttler became the third fastest to score 3000 runs in the Indian Premier League (IPL) against Chennai Super Kings at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium on Wednesday.
The Englishman reached the milestone in his 85th innings. Chris Gayle, who is the fastest batter to notch up 3000 runs in the tournament, did so in 75 innings. KL Rahul – second on the list – took 80 innings to reach the mark.
The right-hander struck his 18th half-century in the IPL on Wednesday, eventually falling for a 36-ball 52 as he was castled by Ravindra Jadeja in the 17th over.
The Rajasthan Royals opener has scored three fifties in four matches this season and is a strong contender for the Orange Cap this time around too.
Buttler was the leading run-scorer in IPL 2022, amassing 863 and smashing four hundreds, and holds the record, along with Virat Kohli (2016), for scoring the most number of centuries in a single season.
