In the film industry, there exist two distinct concepts: stars and actors. Bollywood actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui recently shared his perspective on the preference for stars over actors in casting decisions by filmmakers. In a recent interview Nawaz expressed that stars receive more attention and opportunities, securing big releases and significant financial rewards. He acknowledged the discrepancy in resources and regretfully acknowledged the challenges faced by actors.

EXCLUSIVE: Nawazuddin Siddiqui opens up on the disparity between stars and actors; says, “Stars get big releases, big money. We don’t get such big releases”

In an exclusive video interview with Bollywood Hungama, Nawaz expressed that when it comes to casting, filmmakers prefer stars over actors. He said, “Yes, they are star, so, their name will come obviously. They get big releases, big money. We don’t get such big releases. It is a known fact for everyone, what is the regret of it.”

He further added, “Now there is no guarantee of any celebrity that if you take him/her, you will get this much return.”

Earlier in an interview with Mashable India, Nawazuddin Siddiqui had narrated a story where he had asked Salman Khan the difference between a “Star” and an “Actor”. He said, “I was shooting for Bajrangi Bhaijaan at a dargah in Kashmir with Bhai. We were sitting together on the steps. There was still some time for the scene to be shot. So, I asked him, ‘Bhai actor aur star mein kya farak hota hai?’”

Quoting Salman Khan, Nawaz said, “He said, ‘Look, if an actor and a star are given the task of threading a needle, an actor will do it with focus, sincerity and full concentration. But a star–or I–won’t put the thread in a needle but will think who else will do it. Main gh*nta sui mein dhaaga nahi daalunga (There is no way I am going to do that myself).”

Nawazuddin Siddiqui even agreed with this statement as he said, “The swag, that attitude is important. I found the statement to be correct. Superstars ki jo aadayein hoti hai, wohi toh dekhne jaate hain hum log. We don’t expect acting from them, but their USP, their style, that’s what people go to watch them for. People like that attitude. The difference, Salman told me, is the exact definition of a star and an actor.”

Meanwhile on the film front, Nawazuddin Siddiqui was recently seen in Jogira Sara Ra Ra, where he featured opposite Neha Sharma. The actor also has Noorani Chehra, Haddi, Tiku Weds Sheru and Adbhut in the pipeline.
