Shiv Sena (UBT) sets 15-day deadline for Assembly speaker to act on disqualification issue

By Pankaj Upadhyay: Taking an aggressive stance, the Shiv Sena (UBT) has set a deadline of fifteen days for the assembly speaker to act on the contentious issue of disqualification of rebel MLAs. Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Anil Parab said they expect the Speaker to act within fifteen days, which they felt was resonate enough to act on the issue. The Uddhav faction reasons that Rahul Narvekar, being a lawyer himself, is well-versed with the processes and that everything related to the matter is on record. Going a step ahead, Uddhav Thackeray has said that if the Speaker, who belongs to the BJP, doesn’t act within the stipulated time then they will have the option of approaching the apex court in this regard.

“Yesterday, the Supreme Court gave the judgment. The Shiv Sena and Balasahib Thackeray had established for preserving Hindutva and for the welfare of Marathi manoos was eroded by the rebels. All those faces were yesterday exposed. Many celebrated yesterday. BJP was celebrating, which I could understand, but the rebels celebrating is surprising for me for they were the ones who brought disrepute to the party of Balasahib Thackeray and what it stood for,” said Uddhav Thackeray.

The former Maharashtra Chief Minister also said that the lust for grabbing power and institutions acting in an unconstitutional manner was bringing disrepute to the democracy.

“I urge and request our Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who travels the entire world, that we may have political differences, but such acts aren’t good for democracy. I stepped down on moral grounds and now he should ask the state government too to step down on moral grounds,” said Thackeray.

Uddhav Thackeray also demanded action against former Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari for acting in an unconstitutional manner against his government.

“Question needs to be asked altogether on the very institution of this post. Is it to act in an illegal and unconstitutional manner to dislodge the government? Then what’s the point of such an institution.” he said.

Commenting yet again on his decision to step down, Uddhav Thackeray asserted that the rebels had discredited the party of Balasahib Thackeray and hence he has stepped down on moral grounds.
